Three retention signals that appear before Thai users go quiet
Practical early markers observed across local consumer and SME apps — and how to watch them without drowning in event noise.
Quiet users rarely vanish overnight. In the engagements we run from Bang Rak, three signals tend to show up before a cancellation request: skipped ritual actions, shorter session depth, and unanswered in-product prompts.
Ritual actions are the recurring behaviours that define value — posting a listing, logging a meal, approving a payroll run. When a user who once completed the ritual weekly misses two cycles, churn risk rises even if they still open the app.
Session depth is the second marker. Opens without completing a core flow often mean the habit is thinning. Track depth as a ratio against the user’s own baseline rather than a global average; new cohorts and veterans behave differently.
Unanswered prompts — survey invites, onboarding checklists, or personalised tips — are the third. Persistent ignore patterns correlate with later cancellations more than a single “not now.” Pair this with support ticket silence: users who stop asking questions may have already decided to leave.
Pick one signal to instrument carefully before adding more. Teams that watch twelve indicators often miss the two that matter. A single well-owned retention signal beats a crowded scoreboard.
